Spicy Noodles
I ate spicy food before, while living in Thailand, but also while living in China. That includes hot-pots and chilli’s prepared in different dishes.
This afternoon I went to a chinese shop to buy some pre-packed noodles. I asked the shopkeeper “lamien, bu la” ; it basically means “I would like some noodles, but not the spicy ones”. The shopkeeper seemed helpful, but as there were only four noodle-pots left, I kinda had to put my trust and faith in the shopkeeper. He seemed helpful and handed me over the purple kind. I never tasted this kind of noodles, so why not give it a try, at least it contained some meat instead of the disgusting fish he gave me the last time.
When home, I decided to put only half of the bag of spices inside, only to make sure it tasted properly. As mentioned before, I ate really spicy stuff before, including spicy noodles, but this was like the new guinness world record, SO SPICY !! (and I only put half of the bag inside). It even created some sort of a chemical reaction when I tried to drink water to cool down the spicy taste after my first bite, that I almost had to threw up. Btw. water doesn’t help against a spicy taste, milk does however.
Now, while eating those disgusting noodles, I remembered the shopkeeper had only 4 noodle-pots left, 2 kinds btw. And he must have understood that I didn’t want to buy spicy noodles, as he repeated my words “bu la” and he also helped me picking out the ‘proper’ noodles.
I guess the guy must have had a crunch against foreigners or, just want to get rid of his last noodle-pots (those that nobody busy because they are too spicy). All I can assume is that he is another dishonest Chinese person, as there are plenty of this kind.
