Injustice Somalia, Pakistan and Afghanistan
There are quite a few problems in this world. When I read the newspapers, 3 countries perform a continuous rehearsal : Somalia, Pakistan and Afghanistan. Pakistan related to terrorist attacks, Somalia related to pirate-issues and Afghanistan related to Al Qaeda.
I have my doubts about how international relations are trying to solve the ongoing issues, so that’s why I write this article. If it comes to Somalia, I read that new business-opportunities are created for companies to create defensive tools to fight ‘pirates’. Also concerning Somalia, many convoys are deployed to counter-fight the pirates. If it comes to Afghanistan, I read that more troops might be deployed to fight ‘Al Qaeda-members’. If it comes to Pakistan, I read that another x-number of terrorists have been shot and that police forces will be optimized to fight possible future ‘terrorist’-attacks.
To all those government-morrons behind their expensive desks : have you ever tried to figure out the problem ?!
The first thing that disgusts me is that the media enjoys giving a name to those people : “terrorists” and “pirates” and “Al Qaeda”. This is nothing less than a media-stunt. If you hear the word “terrorist” you will be frightened of course, and if you hear “pirate”, you must be scared ; and a strange word like “Al Qaeda” won’t give you any good feeling either. A negative connotation will help the general public to categorize those people as ‘bad’ and ‘dangerous’. Of course you should be afraid of those kind of people, but stereotyping gives political institutions every possible means to fight against those minorities.
Back to the core of the problem. Did you ever ask yourself why the people from those countries are doing what they do ?? (what is their motivation)
Did it ever come to your imagination that Somalia is one of the poorest countries in the world. Can you imagine how those people live ? Does it makes somehow sense that Somalians would do whatever it takes to make money, considering their situation ? I don’t claim it gives them the right to do what they do, but try to put yourself in their situation.
Did you know that Afghanistan could be more important to America’s oil supply than even Saudi Arabi ? The Caspian Sea is the world’s largest landlocked body of water that may sit on as much as 200 billion barrels of oil, which would be 16 percent of the Earth’s potential oil reserves. That says it all, no ? I am not the first one to say : Afghanistan + Oil = “Crusade against Terrorism” Do you understand why the US is conquering Afghanistan ? Did you know many Afghan people grow plants used to produce drugs ? Why would Afghan people produce drugs instead of regular crops ? I don’t claim it gives them the right to blow up WTC, but try to put yourself in their situation.
As for Pakistan, strongly related to Afghanistan, it might be the perfect country to recruit terrorists from. How do you recruit terrorists ? Most likely you can find some people that have no money, no food… those people would do everything to improve their own situation. Thus, if you find people that have nothing to lose it might ber a perfect coktail for terrorism. I don’t claim it gives them the right to do what they do, but try to put yourself in their situation
No surprise, but it might come to this : money.
Instead of investing money in the deploying troops and promoting war (cf. Afghanistan) and send out convoys to protect commercial ships (cf. Somalia), maybe the government could try to focus on the problem : POVERTY. If the governments could invest the same amount of money in education and first-aid, those problems would be solved by now. ‘Offensive measurements’ are only a way to fight symptoms. ‘Aid’ is the way of prosperity.
